Why UX Design?
In the past, I was an interior designer. Being an interior designer has taught me many transferable skills that I am excited to utilize in the UX field. Understanding users and their needs was a huge part of my career. Oftentimes I had to put my personal bias behind and not get attached to my own design style. I had to take into consideration the needs of my clients first, while sharing my design knowledge with them and creating a final product that included both their style and incorporated interior design rules. Much like UX, the interior design projects I worked on were not just about the aesthetics. I had to take into consideration colors, layouts, and textures. During my time as an interior designer, I presented my ideas to clients and took their feedback, and iterated the designs before revealing the final product.
The process of being a part of mobile app and website creation brings me a lot of joy. I like making life more simple for mobile app and website users. One of the more recent platforms I worked on, Ophycare.com, hit close to home as I am a bilingual immigrant. By implementing user research findings, I focused on the pain points of Non-English speakers and iterated on solutions that benefit user needs. The scope of the project was to implement simpler language to make the appointment setting process less intimidating for the users, while keeping business needs in mind. This project was the perfect example of solving an everyday problem for the user, which is what I love most about the UX process.
What else do we need to know?
I was born in São Paulo, Brazil and migrated to the US at the age of I migrated to the US at the age of 9, the first language I learned was Portuguese. In addition, I also speak Spanish and Italian. When I’m not glued to my laptop, I am hiking, planning my next vacation, volunteering, and concert hopping with my spouse. My closest friends and family would describe me in three words: empathetic, creative, and extroverted. I was looking for a career where I can express those top three skills daily, this is what started my path in UX.
